Your summit climb!

Leg 1 - Materials & approval

The better you start, the calmer and safer is your route and the more successful you are; what generally arises from the second to third time that I guide you. Then I can test in time how solid your materials are, such as your budget, your study protocol, your case report forms, and your declaration of consent. I improve or substitute them as needed. The first time, however, I use to pick you up on the way.

Challenges are my specialty. Thus, solid working relationships arise, such as when I pick you up once a submitted article has already been evaluated. A project leader asked me once if I could dedicate him 15 minutes to calculate the power of his sample. Of them arose several hours of work, since the list of comments of the editors and experts was long, and my expertise was necessary almost everywhere. When I had optimised the analyses and the presentation of the results, created intelligible figures, as well as formulated the discussion more clearly by deriving it more directly from the results, the work corresponded to an impact factor of 10. Therefore:

Leg 2 - Monitoring & quality

In all phases of your study I augment the integrity and plausibility of your data substantially; even when extensively sponsored and well organised monitoring teams of national and continental studies have already realised the most urgent validation steps. One mouse click, and my algorithms automatically realise complete controls with punctual clarifications. That guarantees the quality of your results and avoids embarrassing questions when those are already published.

All your files on which we work together are always locally saved with you and with me. All our adaptations and commentaries are automatically transmitted online to all our computers, so that your actual version is always present everywhere without superfluous e-mails. The protocols of your files register all our adaptations automatically to restore your previous versions if necessary. Thereby, our cooperation is even more efficient, agreeable and safe.

Leg 3 - Analyses & results

In almost all my missions, I calculate the number of cases of your planned study or the power of your already recruited sample and later analyse your data; mainly when they are complex. I analyse them level by level. Beforehand, I elaborate with you the most intelligible modality to present your results, because this is essential to model the most adequate statistical analyses for you. After, we interpret all your results together, and I take care that you become familiar with each level. Thus, each level is stable enough to confidently climb to the following level.

Leg 4 - Conciseness & resonance

I never abandon you with your results. At ADVICE2018, I showed how the relevance and the reach of publications improve by an intensive cooperation between field experts and methodologists. In the results part as product of my analyses and in the methods part, namely the description of the legs 1 to 3, my methodologic role is evident. In the discussion, it might appear less important at first glance, and this is a deception. Realising it is profitable, because the publication of your results in the journal toward which you work depends much on your discussion. It is indeed essential that you derive your discussion directly from your results; most of all initially, where you formulate how your results respond to your issues raised in your introduction.

Because I elaborated beforehand and in detail with you how your results look best, and because I modelled my analyses congruently with this, I know how you formulate the beginning of your discussion ideally. In addition, I use my methodological expertise to sell the advantages and disadvantages of your study very favourably for you. Thus, it is much easier for you in the final stage of your discussion to formulate recommendations that are clearly based on your results and promote the human health actively. This increases the success of your publications and the reputation of your projects considerably.

Une contribution particulière

This is the background of my plenary session at ADVICE2018, first world congress on statistical advising. I talked about the sixth of seven topics, namely “Communication challenges in biostatistical advising”.

I illustrated how methodologists improve the essential communication process to accomplish the missions from new field experts. Highly qualified experts of diverse disciplines who join their forces to realise important research can naturally experience a little excitement. Through my experiences as clinician and as methodologist, as well as through my intensive exchange with both groups, I realize that all know what I mean.

Through my quadrilingualism and my familiarity with the languages of physicians, mathematicians, geneticists and molecular biologists, I work perfectly with all your needs. I transform them into positive energies, so that you climb on scientific summits without exhaustion and by pure pleasure.
